The ectopic pregnancy affects one in every hundred women. In most common cases, the fetus is installed in the tube (or tube, so that each of the two channels that connect the uterus to the ovary), the place unfit for development of a baby. The tube is thin and fragile and is eroded by the placental tissue. "The result is a risk of internal bleeding caused by rupture of the tubal structure around the seventh or eighth week of pregnancy," explains Marcos Sampaio gynecologist.

Causes

Causes include all factors that slow or prevent the passage of the egg to the uterine cavity. May be mechanical factors such as inflammatory causes and its consequences, the development of tumors or abnormalities of the tubes and the surgery on the tubes. And functional factors, which act by decreasing the motility of the tubes. They include smoking, the process of aging and hormonal drugs, such as the morning after pill and IUD containing progesterone.

Diagnosis

The ectopic pregnancy can be a surgical emergency, so early diagnosis is essential. In ectopic pregnancy not stopped, the patient may have no symptoms or have minimal symptoms. "Early diagnosis, made of dosage of beta HCG and ultra sound, can avoid surgery in the vast majority of cases," explains Dr. Marcos Sampaio.
Some tests may be performed to differentiate the ectopic pregnancy of other diseases, such as threat of miscarriage, normal pregnancy, infections of the tubes, appendicitis, twisted ovarian cyst from.

SYMPTOMS

History of delayed menstruation followed by abnormal vaginal bleeding, abdominal or pelvic pain and presence of palpable mass in the painful region of attachments (tubes and ovaries). When rupture of ectopic pregnancy, there is bleeding into the abdominal cavity, with the occurrence of abdominal pain, the dizziness, pain in the neck, shoulder and fainting.

Treatment

Treatment can be surgical. "But there are simple forms of treatment and monitoring until spontaneous remission, or when it does not occur, may be a clinical treatment with medicine intra muscular. If still not resolved, you can do a laparoscopy and remove the gestational sac, said Sampaio.

How to prevent?

The prevention of ectopic pregnancy includes treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, the use of appropriate methods and practice of safe sex.
