 He graduated in medicine from the Federal University of Minas Gerais - UFMG in 1989. Title of Specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics by FEBASGO. Held post-graduate and doctorate in in vitro fertilization and embryology at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, University of London (England). Currently, he is also professor of UFMG, and in January 2003, was elected president of the Brazilian Society of Assisted Reproduction (SBRA).
